So was it a penalty or not?
I’m sure it’s lost in the match thread but there’s a broader question. The panel and that wanker Poll are adamant that even if he touched it, it is a penalty because he then brings the man down with his momentum. If that is true, and I notice they didn’t quote the laws and which law it supposedly transgresses, then that makes the game a non contact sport.

I don’t blame the ref for giving it, he can’t see a feather touch, but for my money, if the player touches it and his momentum takes the other player, as long as it isn’t dangerous, there’s no foul.

Nailed on penalty. hart wiped him out and happened to get a fingertip on the ball.

Hart's gone from costing us one goal a game to two. Bring back Allen McKnight.

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
With respect to penalties a graphic came up on my screen showing where Lanzini puts all his recent penalties. He did just that and Pickford knew in advance where it was going. Lanzini did not exactly seem to be oozing in confidence and it occurred to me that Noble would probably tucked it away.

Never a penalty. So what if the follow through brought him down. So do most sliding tackles.

yep and if you slid in an hardly brushed the ball the way Hart did and look the player out - that'd be a foul too.

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
It was a nailed on penalty - another rush of blood to the head from Joe Hart, just like the third (alebit excellent) goal from Rooney. Quite why Joe cleared the ball directly into the centre of the pitch when he was 30 yards out of his goal, only he would know.

Hart is a good shot-stopper. But beyond that, I think he's just a very average keeper who is prone to errors when he gets worked up - which is often.

I don't see him as being significantly better than Adrian (slightly better, maybe). But it will all be irrelevant at the end of the season, because we are going down (no doubt in my mind) and he isn't going to join a Championship club.

He'll end up at Newcastle.

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
When a keeper comes rushing out and the oppo player gets a toe on to the ball first then it's a pen 9 times out of 10.

I knew it was a pen even before it even happened, could see a mile away what was gonna happen, like watching a train crash in slow motion.

It was one of the most nailed on pens you could ever see... as was ours...

Hart touched the ball

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
it was a stone cold certain penalty. Hart never touched the ball and took the player down. Fuck me some of you must never have played the game to say that the ref got it wrong!

Nailed on.

The was no deliberate second movement (like Zabelleta did in the first half) to bring him down. Therefore NO penalty.

Might as well ban tackling if you think it was.

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
Gph

It's been like that for years though. Don't see it quite so much any more, but the likes of Owen and fowler used to jump over keepers and leave a trailing leg dangling to catch them so they could take a tumble

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
If players just have to kick the ball away when they see the keeper rushing out to them, and then fall over the keeper when he arrives, to get a penalty, then the game's in danger of becoming a farce.

At least require that the contact deprives the attacker of the ball before a penalty is awarded.

The penalty given against us wouldn't have been, under this criterion.

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
The logic of why it isn't goes against everything we get told every week on every football programme, which is bascally as long as a player touches the ball, the follow through on a tackle counts for shit.

Personally I think logically it should be a penalty. I always remember the play off final against palace, near the end carrick got the ball in the box and went to go past a defender who got a minimal touch on the ball and took him out. But the ball was still well within carricks reach until he was tripped so to me it was a pen but not to any 'experts'

To me tonight Calvert-lewin wouldn't have got there as there were defenders covering (not that it means much with our lot!) so poll
Is talking shit there. But I don't think scraping the top
Of your glove on the ball prior to taking a player out should warrant it being a fair challenge. You can't treat 'I got the ball' like a snickometer in cricketing drs

Pen no doubt

Hart is indeed finished but does Moyes realise it yet?

Clear penalty.

Hart got away with one on Wood at Burnley.

He's finished. Decision making awful,

I’ve just realised that I never saw Billy Bonds make one tackle that wasn’t a foul. Alvin Marin too.

It's highly debatable whether Hart touched the ball.

There is no doubt he cleaned up their forward.

Clear penalty.

If that was Pickford on Ayew what would you want?

cambsiron 11:59 Wed Nov 29
Re: So was it a penalty or not?
Penalty all the way.

Slightly graze the ball with a finger tip then totally clean up the player before he can get to the ball - has to be.

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
100% Penalty.

Poll is pointless

but some fucker that starts a thread about a refereeing decision is even more pointless.

Re: So was it a penalty or not?
Definite penalty whether or not Hart got a fingertip touch his dive took the forward out preventing him getting to the ball.
